Still Working Out What it Means to Be Saved By Grace

We might be mid-life but we are still
trying to discover the depths of faith, family and how we are to be
Christ-agents in this world in which we live. We are open to explore, ponder and
discover how God will use us in this phase of our lives. We desire to refine and
adjust ourselves while we reconnect to our pasts and make this transition to the
future. It isn't really about the destination but more about the journey....We
use each of you to sharpen us and hone us to be the people that God intended for
us to be. Will you share the journey with us? We love your comments!

Pickin' In the NEW YEAR 2009

Steve and Bill

Charlie thinks New Year's Eve along with prom are overated. I agree with the prom part but we have a New Year Eve gathering that is really quite unique. We started this years ago when we didn't want our kids out on the road on a night when too many people drank way too much. So the Ellis's, Guidice's etc... would bring their kids over and we would play games and eat way too much food. As the years have progressed, we have lost most of the kids to college and travel lust (although when they are here it is a real bonus) it has turned into Dan's and my party with our friends the Gilmore's (and who ever they decide to bring along).... "Pickin' Party" I would now call it. You see Steve Gilmore is one of the principle guitar players in the blue grass group The High Plains Tradition and his son Martin has his own band. Long Road Home I believe...Martin wasn't able to come this year but he has been with us at least the past four years and it is a blast. Several years we have had Bill McKay join us and this year we added a new friend of ours who plays some too... Will Strahan. Our own Mick even played a piece. This is not casual entainment.... this is the real deal and all in our basement to welcome in the New Year. Below is a cut from the party with Bill and Steve playing Waltzing Matilda.... how appropriate after our big trip to Australia.

They played Country Road, The Dutchman, Early, Will You Still Have Me when I'm 64? to name a just few.

Special Guest: Will

Mick was Coaxed into Playing...Now that is not all to this party.... Dan is famous for his games.... some sort of game. This year we had to write down an occupation that we might have been if we hadn't picked what we are. There were commerical fisherman, pro-golfers, biologists, professors, lawyers, and my favorite the trucker: Carolie Pollock! It was great fun guessing who put that down and then hearing why they are attracted to that occupation. It was a great way to get to know people. There were many surprises.

Now you can't forget one of the highlights of the night... the food.... my fondue.... shrimp, beef, of course, marniated pork in tempera. Plus a chocoloate butterscoth dip for fruit and my cookie tray! That is not all....everyone brings a goodie so our island is heaped with tempting treats!
In a world where life is fast and people so constantly busy this is one night that we take time to enjoy each other. I ask myself.... why don't we do this more? It refreshes your soul! It revives your spirit. It fills you with good cheer. Dan and I have resolved to have more little parties.... I think he is planning a "Moonlight Walk" on the night of the full moon with cocoa and scones afterwards. Tonight the moon is the brightest and fullest all year. The Indians called it the WOLF moon. The moon will be a it's perigee... the closest it will be to the earth in its orbit all year long. The moon on the crest of the new fallen snow....Want to come along?

Mother,
The blog has gone high-tech with your latest video addition. Way to go!

The New Year's Eve party looked very festive--I am always sorry to miss the food, music and company.

Mom K!
We played your video and Gus came up from downstairs when he heard your voice! He was trying to find you - he looked out the window, looked at the computer and tilted his head, dug into my robe. You would have melted. Someone's won gussy's heart :)

Sweet Mercy, my Christmas present has arrived!

I've had it all out, the possum/merino gloves are on (Yay Ian), Fay's got her present, we're both excited about the garlic press, the Jelly Beans are open, the warm clothes are exciting on a number of levels (one is I missed last night's electricity for doing laundry), and thankfully it managed to get through without the customs declaration so I didn't have to pay any extra!

Thanks so much, it's amazing!!!
