Still Working Out What it Means to Be Saved By Grace

We might be mid-life but we are still
trying to discover the depths of faith, family and how we are to be
Christ-agents in this world in which we live. We are open to explore, ponder and
discover how God will use us in this phase of our lives. We desire to refine and
adjust ourselves while we reconnect to our pasts and make this transition to the
future. It isn't really about the destination but more about the journey....We
use each of you to sharpen us and hone us to be the people that God intended for
us to be. Will you share the journey with us? We love your comments!

Some Things Rock Your World

The boys at Applebee's with Maggie and Daddo
Hannah with the Grands...
Daddo and Lynn Strawberry Picking Extraordinare
My precious parents with 59 years of marriage behind them...
This the the guy....

I have been to see my folks twice in the past six weeks. It is hard to go with the winter weather to north central Wisconsin so when I found myself twice in the area in good weather I took advantage of the proximity. Once was after Mick's college graduation in Sioux Falls, SD in May and then Mick, Jeremy and I traveled there. The other I had a conference in Minneapolis two weeks ago so Hannah tagged along with me and we made a little visit to see my parents who are now both 87 years old.

Amazing that they are both alive and living in their own home. Hard that they can't travel to Wyoming any more because there is road travel on both ends in addition to the flights and dealing with security etc.... It is just too hard. Amazing that they both have great minds, are very interested in the world around them and reach out to neighbors and friends with gifts of food, help and company. They are very well thought of in their community. I am not surprised. Hard that things are now physically challengingt although Dad (Daddo) can still cut not only his grass but the neighbors as well.

So this weekend when they found that Dad had a blockage in his colon it rocked my world. Dad's the caregiver... Dad never gets sick. He's tough... he is a World World II vet for heaven's sake. I am a 1,000 miles away.

Dad had major surgery today. They removed a portion of his colon and it is very possibly a cancer of some sort. The blessing: his surgeon seems to have things well in hand. The Doc took time to call me twice today and my brother once. Mom and Dad have some very wonderful Christian friends in Ellen, Saul, Ruth and the girls and many others. They are offering help that is help indeed... staying the night, taking Mom to the hospital and bringing food. There have been three sets of friends that have prayed with me today. We now live, wait and pray for his recovery and the result of the pathology report. Life is fragile and there are no guarantees so we need to have our lives right in the eternal realm. God is still God... that is the guarantee and I trust Him to have his hand on my wonderful Dad.
