In between packing Hannah last week we took on trying to make the front yard a bit less like a desert... After our house fire in '06 the landscaping was trashed. So here we have this wonderful new home and when you sit on the wonderful front porch you gaze at the blankscape and bind weed.We really want to xeriscape around our house. Our neighbor and master gardener, Linda Anderson, has been giving me help on this. So I am excited to report that the first phase is done! We planted 4 new trees!!! Never mind that they were planted in total clay and that we almost had heart attacks digging the holes in such relucant places.... And the little Wisconsin girl even got a (tarartian) maple tree which is supposed to grow well in our climate, have leaves that turn red in the fall and be drought tolerate. So look see... Uncle Allan says that we are planting for the future but at least now you see a bit of green looking out the window.
